Communication
Communication is a very important aspect of human life. It is important to keep constant communication with your team and your boss in order to be productive. However, working from home can be a difficult task when kids are around.
Working with kids in the picture is not easy. As such, ensure to notify your employer that you have kids at home and you cannot guarantee every conversation will be interruption-free. Also, give any team member the heads up before any work-related conversation.
Get Help
Get someone to help take care of your kids. It could be a professional, your parents, or other relatives. This will give you the opportunity to be productive without any interruption. They can talk, read, play games, sing, do dances, and much more with your children.
Engage Kids in activities that don’t require supervision
Another way to get the required freedom from kids during this period is to engage them in activities that do not require supervision.
Babies:
Naps, swings, bouncy chairs
Baby videos
Baby songs
Toddlers:
Favorite shows and online games.
Educational games and apps
Older Children:
Reading, writing stories
Movies
Learning platform
Socializing with friends
Set boundaries
Establishing boundaries is also effective. Have a good and gentle conversation with your kids. They should be told when it is working hours and when its free time. They should be made to understand that during work hours, there should be no disturbance or interruption.
Explain to your kids that the moment you are done with what you are doing, you will come back to them.
Reward good behavior
After establishing boundaries, it is important to reward kids for respecting such boundaries. Rewarding kids for good behavior will trigger them to do more. For instance, if your younger kid likes attention, explain gently that you have a serious meeting and do not need any interruption. Promise to give the kid a treat or pizza if he/she doesn’t interrupt.
It is important to understand that when using this method, always fulfill your promises. When your kids don’t interrupt you, reward them.
